I’ve been saying for years that I want a hammock. We have a really large, beautiful tree in our front yard that would be perfect for one – lots of shade (perfect for a pasty person who burns just talking about sunlight), nice and level….everything you need. For some reason, though, we just never bought one. We’d forget, or say “next summer”; “next summer” would come and go and still no hammock.
Last Sunday I was checking out the weekly ads and found one on sale at Big Lots, of all places. We went there, grabbed one of the last ones on the shelf and took it home.
Of course there was some assembly required:
Just a few pieces
But, we had plenty of qualified help.
Deploying the Team
It actually didn’t take long at all, and before I knew it I had a spiffy little hammock (complete with a sunroof to keep my pale, freckled legs shaded) all ready to go. We decided to put it on our back porch so that every time The Tall One cuts grass, which is at least once a week, it doesn’t have to be moved.
I was soooo excited to try it out – I had the perfect book , a glass of iced tea, and my sunglasses all ready to go. Then, it started to rain. And the skies have pretty much looked like this all week long:
Tomorrow is supposed to be a beautiful day though, so hopefully I will get to (finally) enjoy my hammock!
I’m currently laying on the couch icing my calves, so I figured now is a good time to share some pictures. I ran 3.5 miles yesterday and 4 this morning, and while that doesn’t seem like a lot, my legs are letting me know that tomorrow will be a rest day. Pecan pancakes are calling my name 😀 !
Some pictures from the week:
Apple Pie LaraBar….this may be my new favorite flavor! It really does taste like pie!
I can’t be bothered with matching socks at 5:45 on a Friday morning
All the cool kids are doing it
Shooter is really pissed about the Pens losing Game 7
Don’t mess with me
Had to stop and take a picture of the full moon on Friday morning.
You can barely see it, but it’s there (that’s what she said)
This also explains why people have been so bat sh!t crazy this week.
My new favorite green tea – I was hesitant, but ended up loving it!
I spy kitties!
Found these today at Target; my goodness are they comfortable!
Comfiest sweats ever & gnarly runner’s toes
Tomorrow will be full of meal prep for the week, lots of laundry, and giving my car a much needed bath.
How is it Friday already? This week just zoomed by!
I have no idea how people post every single day…seriously. It took me 3 days to write my last post. By the time I actually publish this post, it could be Sunday. I’m also seriously failing at the “crazy cat lady” title. 4 posts and not a single cat picture?! I will remedy that…just as soon as I can figure out how to get pictures from my phone/camera to the post. Patience is a virtue.
I’m easing back into running – I took Thursday off after I realized I ran two days in a row. My calves and toes were really letting my know they needed a break, and since it was a monsoon outside all day I figured that was perfect. I ran some AM miles today, and felt great! Hopefully I’ll be able to run Saturday and Sunday with Monday as a rest day. I am just so anxious to keep running, but I don’t want to push it and end up sidelined again for a month. Being a responsible adult is lame.
This is a short post – maybe tomorrow I’ll take the time to figure out how to properly download then upload the pictures I’ve taken with the intent of posting. It’s high time I get some cat pictures up here.
Have a great weekend!
The 2014 Dick’s Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon (that’s a mouthful, isn’t it? <<—- Also, that’s what she said) was 4 days ago and I am still riding high from my experience. I set a very unexpected PR in the half marathon, and that really reignited my passion for this sport.
2013 was a pretty lackluster running year for me, but I feel like I’m getting my mojo back. I’m registered to run the Air Force Marathon, September 20 in Dayton, Ohio, and I am really excited about this.
Training starts in a few short weeks, and in the meantime I’m going to
attempt to make some much needed changes to my diet, and (re) incorporate some strength training into my routine. I know that my nutrition is going to make a huge difference in the quality of my workouts and will hopefully help me shed some of this extra fluff that has accumulated around my mid-section.
My next post will be all about the changes I’m making, the plan that I’ll be following during my downtime, and what I’ll be doing during marathon training.
I love hearing how other runners eat to fuel their workouts and training, so tell me, what’s a normal day of eats like during your training? What about during your off season? Favorite treat or indulgence?
Well, hello there!
Welcome to the first post of The Crazy Cat Lady.
I’m not really sure where to start – I have been wanting to start a running blog for ages now and since I just ran my 3rd half marathon (and set a PR), and will start training for my 2nd full marathon in a few weeks I figured now was the time.
What started out as a way to lose weight, slowly became an obsession, and while I’m, at best, a mediocre runner, I want to become stronger, faster, and smarter about running. In order to do that, I need to focus on a boatload of things – nutrition, physical AND mental strength just to name a few. This isn’t going to be easy, but it will be worth it.
